My sister's selling her huge country home with an organic blueberry patch.
My sister and her hubby are selling their huge home on their own. Our paternal Grandmother called it their 'Department store-sized home". Together, they built it in 1983. Everything about it is huge, the forest around them, the acerage, the blueberry patch. Their home has 1334 square feet on each of the two main floors, not counting the full sized basement. I think the heavy timbers keep the air there deliciously clean. Their water comes from a 185 foot deep well that yields 15 gallons per minute. They have a water filter where the water first enters their home, the result is the most delicious water I've ever tasted.
Years ago, when my brother-in-law painted the outside, he painted directly onto the Cedar siding. His reasoning was he wouldn't need to do it again. Many five-gallon sized paint cans quickly disappeared into the wood until it was layered and thick. Well, he was smart. They raised their three kids up there. Now they're all grown up, off on their own, living their own lives. My brother in law put down heated tiles in the lower bathroom floor. It's wonderful to walk barefoot on the warm tiles. I like going in there just to feel the heat on my bare feet.
When it's time to get together, my sister will call me, "We're having our family supper at the end of the month, mark your calendar." From where I live it's a 45 minute drive from the city into the country to get there for our birthday, holiday or 'just get-together' suppers. I get up their long driveway. Park my car. As walk up the front porch to the front door, the comforting smell of the wood stove fills the air, loading me up with re-memories of our coastal village childhood. I get inside and stand beside the the wood stove to take in the crackling sound, their home is filled with cozy warmth. From the huge entry level floor I leave the stove to climb the wide stairs to the gi-normous living room. Sometimes when I arrive there's already a whole housefull of other folks besides family and it just never feels crowded. In between rounds of visiting, everyone bursts into loud happy laughter. My sister bustles about in last minute supper preparation, announcing that supper will be ready in half an hour. I stay in the kitchen with my sister, helping her to fill the table with her blessing of food. After her announcement, we all get back to the fun business of visiting, catching up on each other's news and daily haps. Folks flow in and out of the different rooms, chatting each other up real good. Some folks sip on wine, the rest of us drink herbal tea, the smell of good food cooking fills every nook and cranny.
When there's lots of folks for supper, the huge built-in kitchen nook is filled with hungry friends, so is the jolly-green-giant sized dining room table and sometimes even the 600 sq ft patio is full of friends. It sure reminds me of our childhood home, our Mother used to have our aunties, uncles and our cousins sit down to sup with us in her own huge kitchen. Most times there were up to 20 family members at our supper table.
I'm remembering the past 10 summertimes when I've helped my sister to pick her organic blueberries. It's a bustle of activity. We get into our berrypicking clothes, spray each other with mosquito spray, put on our sun hats and go out picking for the day. Sometimes other folks will come to pick and we get to visit with them, calling across the blueberry bushes. Where do you live? What are you planning to do with your berries? After some hours, we ask each other if our 5 gallon buckets are full yet. And, they usually are. In the late evening we quit, everyone else goes to their own homes and we go back to the house. We weigh and clean our berries, putting them into cardboard boxes ready for delivery to the different folks who have ordered. Then we deliver them to friends in nearby towns, stopping long enough to visit.
When we're all done for the day, we always make plans to pick even more berries the next day. It's funny that my sister doesn't eat blueberries! Doesn't even like them. Me, I eat myself silly the whole time, getting my fill while picking. All the days that I help her pick, my lips and tongue stay a deep blueberry color.
When the house sells, it will be another chapter in our lives for all of us who have spent hours visiting and eating together. They plan to build another home, smaller this time, still on the same acreage but farther back. They'll keep 9 of their heavily timbered acres in our coastal rain forest. Here's the particulars:
1.8 HECTARES with Farm Status; 1.5 acres organic blueberries; Home built in 1983; 2668 sq ft living space of large rooms; 200 A 240/110V wiring; 185 ft Well yields 15 gallons/minute; electric and wood heat. Their phone:604 826-1615. Owner Email to:maxvolney @ look.ca.

Writing for Traffic – Getting Published
by Mark Daoust
Internet marketing journals are filled with articles proclaiming the
immense benefits of article writing. From page rank boosting and
traffic generation, to establishing trust and credibility, the
benefits of becoming a published author should be well known to you
now. If you are not writing articles, then you are simply missing out
on one of the easiest and most effective ways of making your website
a success.
Because article writing has been written about so much, many new
writers have opened up their word processors and began typing away to
harness this powerful tool. However, many of these new authors are
seeing little to no success. Their articles are not getting
published, and the articles that do get published do not see any
traffic.
The problem is that most website owners do not know how to write to
get published. They write to advertise their business, or to simply
get their presence known. This simply does not work.
Article writing can be one of two things: it can be an immensely
beneficial activity for your business, or it can be an immensely time
consuming task that bears few results. Obviously, you want your
article writing to be the immensely beneficial activity. This article
will explore the basic do’s and don’ts of getting your article
published, and in turn, getting those coveted benefits.
Never, Never Include Your Business
When writing your article, keep in mind that the less you try and
push your website, the more people will be likely to visit your site.
More importantly, those who do visit your website will be highly
targeted prospects for your site. People do not like to be sold or to
listen to sales pitches. If a person knows they are in a sales pitch,
their first reaction will be to get out of that situation as quickly
as possible.
Articles have the great ability to make your website known without
the reader experiencing a sales pitch. They establish trust by
focusing on details that does not require the reader to give up any
of their own information or money. Once that trust is established,
entering into a sales pitch is not such a bad of an experience.
The number one mistake that website owners make when writing articles
is to use the article to advertise their website. This is a
guaranteed way of being published in only the journals that do not
screen their articles (and in turn probably do not have a lot of
traffic). You may not think you are advertising your site, but there
are several things publishers look for in articles that they may
constitute as advertising.
The Blatant Advertisement
This is when you write an article and include a section that reads
something like this: “For more information on this subject, visit my
website http://www.yoursite.com”. Asking visitors to visit your
website is perfectly fine, just not within the body of the article
itself.
The Link to a Free Tool
Many articles offer links to free tools to enforce a point that the
article was trying to make. Some articles only intention is to report
a collection of tools that webmasters can use for a specific purpose.
These articles are generally very good and very useful.
However, you should never provide a link to a tool on your website.
Readers have grown tired of articles that do nothing to help them and
everything to help the person who wrote the article. They have grown
savvy to author’s attempts to advertise their website through the use
of articles. As a result, if an article contains a link to the
author’s website as a resource for the topic they are writing about,
it immediately raises suspicions.
Advertising a Website that You Don’t Admit to Owning
This is a classic technique by some authors to advertise their
website for free. They write an article that recommends a website
that they own, however, they never mention that they actually own the
website being recommended. They may recommend the website as a good
resource, a great tool, or a quality service, but never mention that
they have an interest in that website.
Although some publishers will not pick up on this, it is dishonest in
its attempt. An author who does this appears to be offering an
unbiased opinion on a resource when in fact there are anything but
unbiased. If a reader finds out that they were recommended a website
on the assumption that the recommendation came from an unbiased
source, not only will they not trust your service, they will not
trust the publishing source.
Using Your Website as an Example
This is probably the most common source of advertising through
articles. An author who is writing about an issue may decide that
using an active website is important as an example. Naturally they
choose to use their own URL. This is generally not accepted as proper
article writing etiquette.
If you need to use a URL as an example, use the common
http://www.domain.com, or use another resource that you do not have a
personal interest in. By refusing to promote your own website within
the article, you will actually be doing more good for yourself than
bad.
Avoid Two Part Articles
Some articles are so broad in their scope that they cannot be covered
in a single article. If you write an article like this, you should
provide the publisher with each part of the article and allow the
publisher to link to the various parts.
Some authors include a section which reads “This is the second part
of a two part article. To read the first part, please goto
http://www.mydomain.com/article.html”. Many publishers will not
publish this style of an article if they are not able to carry both
parts of the article and keep the links internal. After all, a
publisher publishes articles to become known as a resource. If they
have to recommend their readers go to another website for the basic
information they need, publishing the article becomes counter-
effective.
Make Formatting Easy
Publishers read hundreds of articles sifting through the vast number
of submissions for the best articles. The last thing a publisher
wants to do is spend time formatting an article. With most articles,
this is not a problem.
Define Sections of Your Articles
Using section headlines makes splitting up an article much easier for
a publisher and also makes your article more readable. As an example,
the text you are reading right now is under the section “Make
Formatting Easy” and the subsection “Define Sections of Your
Articles”. Defining various sections of your articles will make
formatting articles very easy for any interested publisher.
Watch Out for HTML
Articles that include various programming code, such as CSS, HTML,
JavaScript, PHP, ASP, or similar code, can be difficult to
incorporate into an article website. Most publishers should have
programs that convert the code automatically to escaped code which
will avoid any problems. You should check with the publisher first to
find out their desired format, though, if you have a lot of code
throughout your article.
You should also never submit your article as an HTML formatted
article unless the publisher specifically states that they accept
HTML formatted articles. Most publishers will not even bother to read
the content of an article that is formatted with HTML tags.
Avoid Tabs and Word Processing Formatting
When writing your article, use as little formatting as possible.
Avoid using tabs as they do not translate to the Internet very well.
Assume that the publisher is going to receive your article in a plain
text format. Therefore, do not bother with adding bold text, italic
text, etc. unless the publisher gives you tools to do so.
Articles that use strange characters and tabs may present too much of
a formatting challenge for the publisher.
Write Articles That Can Stand By Themselves
Publishers are looking for the same thing that readers are looking
for, high quality, well-written articles. An article that offers just
a few tidbits of information or acts as a teaser to tempt the reader
to visit your website is not an article that anyone really wants to
read.
An amazing thing happens when you write an article that contains
quality content and is well-written. Not only will you get published,
but by not wasting your reader’s time with your attempts to advertise
your own website, you will actually improve your credibility and
trustworthiness to your readers. You will become recognized as an
expert in the field you are writing about. People will be more likely
to visit your website as you are the source of the information that
you are writing about.
A good article should be able to stand by itself. A reader should be
able to read your article and walk away having gained something
substantial from reading the article alone.
Using the Resource Box
The resource box is your time to tell the reader about yourself and
to finally advertise your website. This is where all the benefits of
writing articles comes to fruition. If the reader likes your article,
they will visit your website, that is, if the resource box is written
correctly.
The resource box should be short, to the point, and never include
more than 3 links. The resource box is your opportunity to tell the
reader who you are and where they can go to learn more from you. If
you are brief and to the point, your resource box will quickly become
your biggest source of traffic.
Some writers try to insert as much information into their resource
box as possible. The problem with this is that readers are not
interested in reading a long biography of the author, or reading
several lines of text advertising the author’s site. At most, the
reader will be interested in knowing who wrote the article and where
they can go to learn more about the author and the author’s business.
Conclusion: Think of the Readers
If you want to get your articles published, you need to give
publishers what they want. That just happens to be the same thing
that readers want: quality content without a sales pitch. When
writing your article, keep your readers in mind. Do not think of them
as prospects, and do not think of your article as an ad copy. Think
of your article as your opportunity to prove to hundreds of thousands
of readers just how much of an expert you really are.
An amazing thing will happen when you give readers and publishers
what they want. You will find yourself published on websites you
never knew existed, you will find your articles discussed in forums,
and you will find that people will look to you and your business as a
trustworthy enterprise. Those benefits of article writing will be
sitting in your lap.

Forget It! I can't Afford Them!
Forget It! I Can't Afford Them!
Copyright © Bette Tsa-me-gahl
Think you can’t afford good nutrition? Think again! The truth is, you can’t afford to be without the wonderful magic of the medical science developed and proven nutritional supplements that support our God-given gift: our Immune System, whose sole purpose function and programming is to keep our body healthy. We are living in a blessed time! Let's look at the money part.
Most folks already spend at least .15 cents an hour, 24 hours a day (15 cents x 24 hours x 28 days = $100.80 every month) to insure their car and their home, which are totally replaceable. Don’t you think that investing 15 cents an hour ($3.60 a day) on your health is immeasurably more important? Exactly what is your health worth to you? Many folks substitute good nutrition for drugs because their medical insurance covers the cost of going to the doctor and a percentage of the prescription drugs and nutrition isn’t covered. Unfortunately, medical insurance doesn’t cover the time and productivity lost at the job, we don’t get reimbursed for pain and suffering. To top it off, prescription drugs often have severe side effects that cause temporary and in some cases, permanent problems that are worse than the original symptoms! Get this! More than 100,000 folks die each year from properly prescribed medications! Yeah! Read on!
This statistic is according to an article in The Journal of American Medical Association. The author, Bruce Pomeranz, M.D., Ph.D., reviewed 39 different studies of adverse drug reactions in hospitals and came up with alarming conclusions. According to Pomeranz’s research, he estimates that 2,216,000 hospital patients experienced serious adverse drug reactions and 106,000 died from these reactions in 1994 alone. This astounding number accounted for 4.6% of all recorded U.S. deaths that year. This makes drug reaction deaths the fourth leading cause of deaths in the U.S. According to the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health, “90% of health problems can be dealt with at home, bypassing the cost of a visit to the doctor.” A healthy diet with glyconutritional and phytochemical supplements can go a long way to ensure that you never get sick to begin with! Not only can you avoid the pain and suffering, you also avoid the risks of having adverse reactions to drugs!
Let’s take a peek at what health already costs you. First, most folks pay for health insurance in one form or another. In the U.S., folks typically pay a reduced rate through an employer. A doctor visit costs the office visit fee plus, a percentage or “co-pay” for the prescribed drug(s). A single visit to the doctor can end up costing more than $100 after paying the costs of the office visit and prescriptions. Let’s suppose you have a $10.00 an hour job, get sick and miss 3 days of work. Let’s see, at 8 hours per day, means another $240 that’s lost. So the total cost of getting sick for only a few days easily costs more than $300, not to mention the loss in productivity for you and your employer! Imagine the costs for long-term sickness – the thought is unbearable!
When exactly can you start believing that simply improving your health increases your life span by just one year? What is that worth to you? At least one year’s income! What if you live 10-20 years longer? What is that worth to you? It’s easy to quantify the costs of good nutrition, it’s more difficult to quantify the benefits of being and staying healthy. None of us know how long we are going to live or even what disease challenges we can prevent by simply taking the steps that we know will benefit our overall health and of course our happiness.
Many folks spend $3-5 a day on ‘drinks’ and ‘snacks’. We can choose to reduce then eliminate the harmful ‘non-foods’ that reduce our health, such as sodas, chips, candy, pastries, sugar is more harmful than smoking (it is good to stop though), pre-packaged snacks, fried foods, packaged breakfast cereals etc. Anything that is processed to sit on the grocery shelf without rotting simply takes away from your health. When we choose to put those things into our body we can think of health like a bank account getting slowly and surely drained. Rather than spend your hard earned cash on ‘non-foods’, you just might choose to keep and even improve your health. This small investment could end up saving you hundreds, even thousands of dollars!

How to keep robots/spiders out of your web site
Article Author: Roberto Bonomi. Posted: 28-03-2006.
THE ROBOTS.TXT FILE
You probably know that search engines were created to help folks find information quickly on the Internet and the information we get is through the robots, which are also known as spiders or crawlers. They search all web pages. The spiders or crawlers robots explore the web looking for and recording all the information. They usually start with a URL submitted by users, or from links they find on the web sites, the sitemap files or the top level of any site. Once the robot gets the home page, it then recursively (self-repeats) gains access to all the pages that are linked from that page. And, the robot also checks out all the pages that it finds on any server. After the robot finds a web page, it gets to work indexing the title, the keywords, the text, the meta tags, etc. But sometimes you might want to stop the search engines from indexing some of your web pages, ones like news postings and specially marked web pages, for example: an affiliate page, but whether individual robots comply to these conventions is purely voluntary.
ROBOTS EXCLUSION PROTOCOL
So, when and if you want robots to keep out of some of your web pages, you can ask robots to ignore the web pages that you don´t want indexed. To do that, you place a robots.txt file on the local root server of your web site. For example, if you have a directory called 'e-books' that you want to ask robots to keep out of, your robots.txt file will read:
User-agent: * Disallow: e-books/
When you don´t have enough control over your server to set up a robots.txt file, you can try adding a META tag to the head section of any HTML document. For example, a tag like the following, tells robots not to index and not to follow links on that particular page:
meta name="ROBOTS" content="NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW"
Support for the META tag among robots is not so frequent as the Robots Exclusion Protocol, but most of the major web indexes currently support it.
NEWS POSTINGS
If you want to keep the search engines out of your news postings, you can create an "X-no-archive" line in your postings' headers, like this: X-no-archive: yes
Although common news clients allow you to add a 'X-no-archive' line to the header of your news postings, some of them won’t let you. The problem is that most search engines assume that all the information they find is public, unless marked otherwise. So be careful, because although the robot and archive exclusion standards may help to keep your material out of major search engines there are some others that just have no respect for such rules. If you're highly concerned about the privacy of your e-mail and Usenet postings, you can use some anonymous remailers and PGP. Find out about them here:

Even if you’re not particularly concerned about privacy, remember that everything you write is indexed and archived somewhere for eternity, so use the robots.txt file as much as you need & want it.
